In response to global service disruptions, Microsoft announced on Thursday that it was looking into problems with its cloud services in the Central US region. Airlines operating in Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities reported adverse effects on their flight operations due to the outage. Airports in Delhi and Mumbai will experience a temporary outage of certain of Akasa Airlines’ online services. In a statement, Spicejet added that it is presently having technical difficulties with its flight update service.
IndiGo Airlines also reported that its systems were affected by the Microsoft outage. “During this period, booking, check-in, access to boarding passes, and some flights may be impacted,” the airline stated.
Flights were grounded worldwide for more than two hours by US-based Frontier Airlines, a division of Frontier Group Holdings Inc., which ascribed the problem to Microsoft’s services.
The outage also impacted bookings and reservations for Allegiant Air, a cheap airline that operates about 130 planes and reports that it is addressing the problem.
News outlets in Australia reported that airlines, telecommunications providers, banks, and media broadcasters experienced disruptions due to loss of access to computer systems. Some banks in New Zealand also reported being offline.
