A day after a heated exchange between Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and comedian Kunal Kamra regarding the company’s after-sales services, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a show cause notice to the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer.
Ola Electric stated in a filing with the exchange that it has been given a 15-day window by the consumer protection agency to reply to the show-cause notice. According to the company, the notice addresses alleged violations of consumer rights, misleading advertisements, and unfair trade practices.
“We would like to inform you that the company has received a show cause notice from the Central Consumer Protection Authority. According to the CCPA, the company has fifteen days to reply to the notification. The company will provide a response to the CCPA within the specified timeframe, along with supporting documents,” the filing stated.
Ola Electric clarified that the notice would not affect the financial, operational, or other activities of the company.
This development follows a verbal clash between Aggarwal and Kamra, which began when Kamra shared a photo on X showing Ola e-scooters parked outside a dealership, accumulating dust.
“Do Indian consumers have a voice? Do they deserve this? For many daily wage laborers, two-wheelers are their lifeline, Kamra said. In response, Aggarwal accused Kamra of accepting money to criticize the company, asserting that Ola Electric is expanding its network and will soon resolve the backlogs.
Kamra fired back, labeling Aggarwal as “arrogant” and “substandard,” to which the Ola Electric CEO responded by suggesting he could offer Kamra “better” pay than what he earns from his “flop shows.”
In recent months, Ola Electric has seen a surge in consumer complaints. To tackle this issue, the company announced it would introduce “HyperService,” aimed at providing “one-day resolution” for service-related concerns.
