NMDC Limited, a prominent Schedule “A” Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel with Navratna status, has appointed Joydeep Dasgupta as Director (Production) starting November 15.
In this new role, Dasgupta will focus on helping the company achieve its goal of producing 100 million tonnes of iron ore by 2030 while maintaining a commitment to Responsible and Sustainable Mining practices.
With a career spanning over three decades, Dasgupta has earned a reputation for exceptional leadership and strategic foresight in the mining sector. Most recently, he served as Executive Director (Mines) at SAIL’s Jharkhand Group of Mines under the Bokaro Steel Plant, where he led key initiatives in system enhancements, ISO audits, and successful capacity expansion projects.
Dasgupta also previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at International Coal Ventures Pvt. Ltd. (ICVL), managing mining operations in Mozambique and overseeing the export of coking and thermal coal to Indian companies such as SAIL and RINL.
A graduate in Electrical Engineering from BIT-Sindri, Dasgupta began his career in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) at SAIL. Over the years, he has held several important roles, including Unit Head at the Jharkhand Group of Mines under Bokaro Steel Plant.
He has further enhanced his expertise through specialized technical training in Austria at SVAI Linz, Leoben, Donawitz, and Eisenerz, as well as the Advanced Global Techno-Management Programme at ESCP, Paris. Dasgupta has also represented India in Russia and Far East Siberia, seeking alternative coking coal and PCI supplies for Indian steel plants.
