A social media post on X has raised alarms after calling for the “assassination” of billionaire Elon Musk.
The controversy began when a user named Bill Shea shared a post reacting to Musk’s comments on a federal spending bill.
Shea’s post included a screenshot from an account called “Republicans Against Trump,” which stated, “Elon Musk is literally everything MAGA Republicans accused George Soros of being.”
Adding to the post, Shea wrote a seemingly provocative comment emphasizing Musk’s corporate role. “People, keep in mind that Musk is the CEO of multiple businesses. He is a CEO, I reiterate. You can do whatever you want with that information,” Shea wrote.
This sparked widespread backlash, with many users accusing Shea of implying harm toward the Tesla CEO. As the post gained traction, Shea deleted his account.
Brian Thompson’s Murder Sparks Debate on Corporate Leadership
The controversy surrounding Musk follows the recent murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, which has fueled discussions about public distrust in corporate leadership.
Thompson was fatally attacked outside a Manhattan hotel before a company conference. The alleged perpetrator, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, was apprehended after a five-day manhunt.
Thompson’s killing has stirred anger among Americans frustrated with the healthcare system, highlighting tensions between corporate leadership and public sentiment.
An Emerson College poll revealed that 41% of young Americans found Mangione’s alleged actions “acceptable.” Specifically, 24% of voters aged 18-29 said the murder was “somewhat acceptable,” while 17% deemed it “completely acceptable.”
The poll also showed a sharp partisan divide: 22% of Democrats expressed some level of approval for Mangione’s actions, compared to just 2% of Republicans and 16% of independents.
