Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), revealed that the company employs 27,000 people worldwide, with 8,000 engineers in India, making up 25% of its workforce. Speaking at an event at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Su emphasized the value of a global workforce, which offers diverse perspectives and capabilities, especially in a global market.
Su discussed the growing significance of AI, noting that while AI is not a new technology, its accessibility has drastically changed over the past decade. “AI used to be limited to experts, but now it’s becoming available to a broader range of people, driving business productivity and solving critical challenges,” she explained.
She also highlighted the impact of Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs), which have made AI technology more practical and useful. According to Su, artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize computing by boosting innovation and expanding corporate capacities.
Su also outlined AMD’s strategy of supporting an open-source, hardware-agnostic software ecosystem. “We’re investing in layers, tools, and compilers to promote an open-source environment, which has strong industry support,” she continued. Additionally, Su pointed out that semiconductor policies are now a global priority, with AMD diversifying its supply chain worldwide and maintaining strong international collaborations.
