Siyad Ma has been named Chief Executive Officer of Expedera Inc., a scalable Neural Processing Unit (NPU) semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider. The appointment takes effect immediately. Ma takes over as CEO after co-founder Da Chuang, who will become Executive Chairman.
Ma, who co-founded Expedera and previously served as Vice President of Engineering, was instrumental in developing the company’s groundbreaking packet-based NPU architecture and software stack. This platform significantly enhances performance, power efficiency, and spatial efficiency without altering customer neural networks or compromising accuracy. Before this role, Ma led ASIC and IP teams at Cisco and has held senior management and technical roles at Spanslogic (Cisco), Zettacom (IDT), Chameleon, and AMD. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
“From the start, Da [Chuang] has provided the vision and leadership that has driven us to create innovative AI processing technology tailored for the era of pervasive AI-enabled devices,” Ma said. “Thanks to his guidance, we’ve built a robust company ready for significant growth. With our smartphone, automotive, and data center customers ramping up production, I am both honored and excited to lead Expedera into its next phase as CEO.”
Da Chuang, who co-founded Expedera in 2018 and has served as CEO since then, will now focus on long-term strategic planning and key corporate initiatives as Executive Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the company expanded from 3 to over 70 employees across six countries and established itself as a leader in AI Inference IP.
Expedera’s IP products have been deployed in more than 10 million consumer devices, with customers spanning various industry sectors. Prior to joining Expedera, Chuang was a co-founder of Memoir Systems, which Cisco later bought. He also had technical and senior management roles at Nvidia, Abrizio, and Cisco. He received his MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and his BS in EECS from the University of California, Berkeley.
As CEO of Expedera, Da Chuang remarked, “I am immensely proud of what we have built, and it has been the highlight of my career.” As Executive Chairman, I’m excited to collaborate with Siyad and our Board of Directors to maintain the company’s expansion and innovation.
