President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, an accomplished Indian-American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author, as the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. The official statement highlighted Krishnan’s role in shaping AI policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Trump stated, “Sriram Krishnan will bring his extensive expertise to ensure America’s continued leadership in artificial intelligence. Working alongside David Sacks, he will play a critical role in coordinating AI strategies across government departments and collaborating with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.”
Who is Sriram Krishnan?
Krishnan’s journey began at SRM Valliammai Engineering College in Tamil Nadu, India, where he earned his degree in engineering. He started his career at Microsoft, contributing significantly to the development of Windows Azure by working on its APIs and services. He also authored the book Programming Windows Azure, published by O’Reilly.
In 2013, Krishnan joined Facebook, where he spearheaded efforts to scale the platform’s mobile app download ads business. His career trajectory later took him to Snap and Twitter (now X), where he collaborated with Elon Musk on platform restructuring initiatives. After leaving Twitter in 2019, Krishnan became a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) in 2021 and, in 2023, established the firm’s first international office in London.
Apart from his professional achievements, Krishnan serves as an advisor to the Indian fintech company Cred and co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show podcast with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
