On Friday, Amazon India and the Ministry of Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster their partnership. This agreement aims to enhance the reliable and efficient transportation of Amazon’s packages by utilizing the national rail network.
In a statement, the e-commerce company announced it will collaborate with the Railways to establish a hub-and-spoke model for a specific origin-destination pair. The insights gained from this initiative will help define the necessary requirements for scaling it across the entire network.
The plan addresses first and last-mile needs, transit times, cost options, and policy supports to increase parcel volumes via the Railways.
Amazon India will also offer recommendations to enhance the speed and reliability of the parcel logistics network through the Railways.
In 2023, Amazon India further solidified its partnership with Indian Railways by becoming the first e-commerce logistics company to utilize the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
