Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says the company would invest $3 billion in new data centers and cloud and AI infrastructure in India. The firm highlights the exciting spread of AI in India and the need for new infrastructure, with the goal of training 10 million individuals with AI capabilities by 2030.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella declared that the company will establish new data centers and invest $3 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in India over the course of the next two years. By 2030, the business plans to train 10 million workers in AI capabilities, he noted.

“It would be the single largest expansion into the region,” Nadella said of the $3 billion increased investment in India. In India, the velocity at which AI is spreading is fascinating. When it comes to innovation, he told the more than 3,000 developers who had gathered to hear him Tuesday at a huge Bengaluru exposition hall, “This is the golden age for systems.”

During his nearly 11 years as CEO, Nadella has revolutionized Microsoft by putting his money on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) and fostering a collaborative culture. As a result, the business has become the second in the world to reach $3 trillion in market valuation, behind Apple.

Today, Microsoft’s large Indian engineering workforce drives a large portion of its activities. Additionally, the business finds India to be a more alluring market. “I had an amazing opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Modiji yesterday. His ideas on how he wants to lead AI missions are fascinating to hear. According to Nadella, the yojanas (schemes), the India Stack, the entrepreneurial spirit in this nation, and the demographics of both the corporate and consumer sides are all combining to create a positive cycle.

Today’s infrastructure must be seen differently than it was in the past, according to Nadella. There is a new formula for infrastructure that applies to every nation or business. That formula, in my opinion, is tokens per dollar per watt. Essentially, their ability to effectively drive that equation will determine how well their (country or firm) grows, he added.

Tokens per dollar per watt is a metric used to quantify the efficiency of AI applications. It basically indicates the number of tokens (information units) that can be produced for every dollar of processing power, taking into account the energy consumption (measured in watts) needed to generate such tokens. In essence, it emphasizes an AI system’s economical and energy-efficient performance. Nadella stated that this infrastructure must be given top attention. He said that Microsoft is advancing in all areas of it. Microsoft claimed to be leading South Asia’s AI revolution with 800 clients and five times returns for every dollar it invests in GenAI, with 70% of its clients reporting productivity gains. Microsoft has Air India, PwC, and Biocon as clients in India.
