India must quickly adopt AI through a comprehensive strategy focused on maximizing “Atmanirbhar” initiatives, emphasized Akash M. Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, on Tuesday (October 15, 2024). He strongly advocated for the necessity of keeping Indian data within the country’s data centers.
During the inauguration of the IMC and International Telecommunication Union-World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (ITU-WTSA) 2024, Akash Ambani urged the government to accelerate the revision of the Data Centre Policy 2020 draft to ensure that Indian data remains within India’s data centers.
“The rapid and extensive generation of multilingual data in India will significantly propel the AI revolution. We urge the government to prioritize the update of the 2020 Data Centre Policy draft to ensure that Indian data is stored in India’s data centers,” he stated.
Ambani described AI as a transformative tool that can revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and manufacturing.
To support this initiative, he called for Indian companies that are ready to establish AI and machine learning data centers to receive all necessary incentives, including those related to power consumption.
